Sandi Hemmerlein is a California-based writer and photographer with a passion for historical sites, natural wonders, and the obscure. She documents her explorations of the world—including offbeat and forgotten places—on her personal blog, Avoiding Regret. She has written for KCET’s SoCal Wanderer since 2015 and has also been published by PBS SoCal, Frommer’s, and Atlas Obscura. While Sandi has lived in such major metropolitan areas as Los Angeles, New York City, and London, she has focused on traveling the world to more unconventional destinations, like Chernobyl, Budapest, Morocco, Tunisia, and Cuba.
